Smart Watch, Smart Scheme

Buy your smartwatch through your gross salary

A smartwatch can be a truly helpful and practical tool—both at work and in your private life—especially if you have a busy schedule to manage. That’s why smartwatches are approved by the Danish Tax Agency (SKAT) for gross salary schemes, as they are considered to have clear work-related relevance. Here are three examples of how a smartwatch can be beneficial in most professional settings:

Smartwatches on a Gross Salary Scheme

If you’ve been considering buying a smartwatch, we strongly recommend doing so through a gross salary scheme.

When your company offers smartwatches as part of a gross salary arrangement, you pay for the device with your pre-tax salary rather than your net salary (as you would in a retail store). The cost is spread over 12, 24, or 36 months and deducted from your salary before tax is calculated. That means you save at least the value of your personal tax rate.

Because the smartwatch is provided by the company, they retain ownership during the period of the scheme. When the term ends, you’ll have the option to buy out the smartwatch and become the full owner.

Alternatively, you can return the device to us. And if you spot a newer, smarter model in our shop, you can easily start a new gross salary scheme—just like before.

Taxation of Smartwatches

Smartwatches are subject to taxation under a gross salary scheme. Because they have similar features to a mobile phone, they fall under Denmark’s multimedia taxation rules.

Multimedia taxation means you pay a fixed annual tax of DKK 3,300 (in 2025). If you’re already paying multimedia tax, you won’t pay extra for your smartwatch. It is the employer’s responsibility to report this to the tax authorities (SKAT). You can read more about multimedia taxation here.
